The french 504 club
presented an impressive 504 during the last show in Lyon : a 504 sedan Rallye!!
And not just a random one : this model was engaged in Group 2 rallyes, and it
won in 1975 the famous Safari Rally
in Kenya (pilot : Anderson), plus the Marocan Rallye (pilot : Mikkola) and the
Bandama Rallye in Ivory Coast (pilot : Makkinen). The co-pilote was Jean TODT,
a name which will then become famous in rallying with Peugeot and then in formula
1 with Ferrari. These races were extremely tough for the engaged vehicles, and
thoses victories were real commercial arguments for Peugeot. This 504 also won
some other rallyes until it got (also successfully) replaced with the 504 Coupé
V6 Bandama.
This 504 remains pretty close to the normal 504, the main difference is regarding
the engine : the 4 cylinders reached 170 horsepower for a max speed of 180km/h
(enough for the african tracks, right??). But it sure has an aggressive look,
doesn't it??
