Congratulations to those who guessed the truth!! Indeed, this "504"
is a....Mercedes 200 serial (W123)!!!!! These are Mercedes wheels,
Mercedes whippers, and a Mercedes profile (apart from the trunk "break"
that has been added)!
The little story is that a Lybian asked to an italian coachbuikder to
transform his Mercedes into a 504 look. Was he a total lover of the 504
look who wanted to keep that look on his new car? Anyway, that's another
prrof of the strong image of the 054 in Africa! Who had imagined that
one day, aMercedes would be transformed into a Peugeot, and not the opposite??
The 504 makes people dream, believe me!
Here is a copy of the article placed besides the photos in the magazine:
"AT FIRST glance this is simply a common or garden variety Peugeot
504. A longer look indicates that there is something different about the
car's cockpit area. Perhaps, you might think, it is a prototype of a new
medium-sized Peugeot model, indeed it might even be the new 505.
But don't those wheels look familiar and the doors and windscreen? The
penny drops, it is a
compact W123 Mercedes-Benz with a Peugeot 504 nose and tail. Don't ask
us how or why. All we know is that an un-named Italian coachbuilder carried
out the work for a buyer in Libya, North Africa.
There have been other such custom jobs of course. The most common being
VW Beetles with Rolls-Royce or Mercedes-Benz grilles. You might also remember
we ran a story a few years ago about a man who had a Rolls grille very
neatly added to the front of his Mercedes-Benz. Why you ask? I don't know,
except that it provides an instant talking point with car enthusiasts.
I can't believe for a moment that adding a Rolls grille convinces the
driver that he had done any more than tarted up his old car.
